Take Every Thought Captive

Some thoughts are worth thinking ... some - not so much ...

I can get carried away sometimes - with my thoughts ... how about you?

I read a research study that said .. we think up to 60,000 thoughts a day!
... at first that seems hard to believe - but when you "think about it" ... ha - it's quite possible.
From - "who's picking up Olivia from Drama Club tonight" - to ... "did he really just say that to me in front of my boss?" ... to - "what was that guy thinking - pulling out in front of me like that" ... "boy am I hungry ... wonder what's for dinner " -  "is this blog almost over?"

  • Life is tough - our thoughts are overwhelming.
  • Our Thoughts can betray us.
  • Scripture says - to "take every thought captive" - but how?

First - if it's true - that we process up to 60,000 thoughts per day (that's 42 every minute)- that's a lot of thoughts isn't it? There is no way - we can catch very many of them!

Remember - the thoughts you think are only coming from one of three sources.

1. Your own mind.
2. The enemy of our soul - satan.
3. God's Voice - His Holy Spirit.

It's a battle of the mind that we are engaged in ... and discerning which voice you are hearing is vital - to overcoming - and not going down the rabbit hole of despair. Scripture reminds us that there is a process to winning the battle!  2 Corinthians 10:5 says -  "[We are] destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and [we are] taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,"

Note - to self - that's a 2-step process outlined there. Many times - we attempt to take every thought captive - and leave it at that.  We fail miserably - because we leave out step 2. - Taking it captive to the obedience of Christ. I find it quite impossible to take one thought captive let alone 60,000 per day  - the only shot I have is by allowing the Holy Spirit to do the catching for me - and unless I am being obedient to Christ - the Holy Spirit - won't be doing any catching! I must allow the Holy Spirit to discern the voice - or the thought I hear  - I must measure it against what Jesus would have me do (WWJD?)  - If I refuse to submit my mind to Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit - I won't have a shot at taking any thought captive. Like a muscle that you exercise to make stronger - you can exercise your Holy Spirit muscle to grow stronger in taking every thought captive to the obedience of  Christ - and walking in victory! Holy Spirit - we pray that You help us to do this - a little better every day - I pray!
